The 2010 season is
in full swing with 3 solid races under my belt
in February and March. I kicked off the season
with a win at the Desert Classic Duathlon in
Phoenix – one of my favorite races because of
the 2 trail runs, the challenging course and
awesome scenery. It also doesn’t hurt that I can
drive to the race from Tucson – always a treat.
It was unseasonably cold and rainy on race
morning, the kind of day which makes you
seriously consider staying in bed. The race was
stacked with fast girls: Leanda Cave, Michellie
Jones and Lindsay Corbin to name a few so it was
a solid hit out in February. I trailed on the
first run bu took the lead on the bike and led
for the rest of the day.
The AbuDhabi
International Triathlon was next on the schedule
and while my race did not go as planned, it was
cool to travel to the UAE – my first time there.
The race was amazing for a first year event and
Julie Dibens was equally impressive as she took
home the win and the big payday. We donned
burkas to enter the largest mosque in the UAE
and (window) shopped at all the high-end
boutiques in a city of seemingly unlimited
wealth and resources. No economic crisis in this
oil rich nation!
Ironman 70.3
Oceanside was next up and i took the opportunity
to race against the best in the world again
close to home. I had a great swim and exited
the water with Michellie and Rinny (who tells me
she has been swimming like a fiend all winter) 2
minutes back on the leaders. I had the 2nd
fastest bike split and came out of T2 in third -
the top three were all within 30 seconds of each
other heading out onto the run so it was a
pretty exciting race. I passed Leanda early and
ran in second place until mile 9 when I was
passed by Lesley Paterson -last years' Xterra
world champs runner up. I was psyched to finish
3rd place against an awesome field at an
early race.
Now its back to
Tucson for more training and prep for Wildflower
long course in May.
